ABOUT US

Our committee is composed of 6 citizens of Ord.  We all have children and are passionate about the community and children.  The proposed, all-inclusive, playground will be a wonderful addition to our park and local amenities. It will not only be handicap accessible, but will also include a sidewalk and poured-in-place rubber surface to allow for easier access, movement and safety. These surfaces alone will allow ease of mobility for anyone with a disability, wheelchair, walker, stroller, etc, to have access to the equipment. This playground will encourage everyone to join in the fun, promote healthy and active lifestyles, incorporate the whole community and help develop sensory and cognitive skills. All kids want to play and as every educator and child advocate knows, play is essential in childhood. The unfortunate reality is that not all playgrounds are inclusive or even accessible for all children to play in. Our committee’s vision is a playground that will give all children access to the same or properly-adapted playground equipment as their peers, disability or not. In addition, all children can benefit from inclusive playgrounds. A child’s understanding of the world often starts with play. When all kids are offered opportunities to play together, it opens healthy behavioral and social skills that are vital later in adult life. We also want to make it easier for all ages and abilities to enjoy our beautiful park together, creating wonderful memories!
